March 6, 2019

What are you going to do next weekend? Are you going to sit at home and accomplish a whole lot of nothing? Maybe you have some big plans, but you end up just sitting inside and gorging yourself on Netflix and pizza. This is no way to live, not when you have so many other great things that you could be doing instead! For example, why not take some time to book a fishing trip with Fin & Fly.

When you book a charter, you can head out for a beautiful day of fishing and actually doing something interesting. Why not catch some mahi-mahi? Not only is this a fun fish to catch, but you will also find that it also happens to be a very delicious fish. There are plenty of ways that you can prepare it, but one of the very best follows in our recipe, which you will find right here.

Making Delicious Mahi-Mahi Tacos

You love to spend time out on the water fishing and enjoying the day, of course. However, once you get your catch cleaned and you are at home, you need to put it to use. One of the very best options to consider with your mahi-mahi is to make tacos… seriously, it doesn’t get much better. Best of all, you’ll find that our recipe tends to be very simple to follow, even if you don’t consider yourself to be much of a chef.

Let’s get started with the ingredients you will need for the grilled mahi-mahi:

  • 2lbs of your fresh mahi-mahi filets that you then cut into 1.5” strips
  • 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon of paprika
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 a teaspoon of ground cumin
  • 1/2 a teaspoon of dry cilantro (can be eliminated if you don’t like cilantro)
  • 1/2 a teaspoon of cracked pepper

Next, you will need your ingredients for the crema:

  • 1/4 cup thinly sliced green onions
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro (again, you can remove this if you do not like cilantro)
  • 3 tablespoons of mayonnaise
  • 3 tablespoons of sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon grated lime rind
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of fresh lime juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 minced garlic clove

Additional ingredients:

  • 3 cups of thinly sliced purple cabbage
  • 3 sliced avocados
  • 20 corn or flour tortillas

When you use your own mahi-mahi that you caught rather than bought, you will find that it will taste fresher and better. Of course, you also want to have the right hot sauce to go along with your delicious fish tacos. Fortunately, you will be able to find a fantastic option right in Madeira Beach, FL. “Crazy” Mother Pucker’s of the Month at the Florida Winery. They have some fantastic hot sauces that you might want to pick up for your tacos, and for anything else that needs a bit of a kick.

Now that you have a list of the ingredients you will need, and some ideas for a great hot sauce, it’s time to put it all together into some of the most delicious fish tacos you’ll ever have.

Grilling the Fish

First, you will want to get the grill prepared. Place it on medium-high heat. In a small bowl, you will combine all of the ingredients in the first list except for the mahi-mahi. Stir up the ingredients to mix them, then pat the mahi-mahi dry and rub this spice mixture onto the fish. Set it aside.

Making the Crema

Combine all the ingredients for the crema into a small bowl. Mix it up thoroughly until it has a nice and creamy texture and everything is mixed properly. It really is this easy to do.

Putting It Together

Now, we’re getting closer to actually making the tacos. First though you have to grill them. Make sure that the grill has been rubbed down with olive oil so the fish does not stick. You will now add the fish to the grill and cook it for between 2 to 3 minutes on each side. Once they are grilled, you will remove them.

During this time, you can also warm up the tortillas by grilling them for between 30 seconds and one minute per side. Remove them, and then add the fish to the tortillas with some of the sliced cabbage, along with the sliced avocado and some of the crema that you’ve made. Then, you can top it off with some of the hot sauce to give it a bit of spice.

See! Quick and simple, not to mention delicious.
